About Audrey West
Audrey West is an artist, community activist, linguist and psychotherapist currently based in North Wales. She moved to Wales from London to be surrounded by the sea and the mountains - elements that remind her of her heritage and childhood when she lived in Jamaica.
Born in Jamaica, Audrey moved to London in 1962, to be with her family. Her mother and father moved to the UK in 1960 and she soon joined them with her six siblings after a sudden death of her sister.
Since then Audrey navigated her life in London and followed an academic path - she completed her first degree in Iberian and Latin American Studies, she then qualified as a PGCE modern language teacher. In 1998, she received her Post-Graduate diploma as a Psychosynthesis Counsellor and Psychotherapist.
In 2002, she gained a Masters degree in Cultural Memory, this raised her awareness of the trauma in subsequent generations of the enslaved Africans.
Combining her academic studies with her creative practice, Audrey pursued a multi-dimensional career that was always anchored in her family heritage and collective narrative.
